Benefits and use of EmbryoGlue in IVF: Increasing the chances of success

16.7.2024 · 2 min reading

Our clinic uses EmbryoGlue, as well as other supportive methods, mainly because it increases the chances of successful embryo attachment and thus the overall success rate of IVF cycles for our clients.

What is EmbryoGlue?

EmbryoGlue is a special medium designed for embryo transfer during IVF (in vitro fertilization). The uterine lining (endometrium) undergoes changes during the menstrual cycle to become receptive (ready) to receive the embryo. This period is called the “window of implantation”. Hyaluronan, a molecule naturally present in the uterus, plays a key role in cell adhesion. It helps create an environment that is friendly for the embryo to attach to the uterine lining.

How does EmbryoGlue work?

EmbryoGlue mimics the natural ability of the uterus, where the hyaluronan in EmbryoGlue increases the adhesion of the embryo to the uterine wall, improving the chances of successful implantation. The medium creates an environment that is very similar to the natural environment of the uterus. This makes EmbryoGlue in IVF like a magic helper that increases the chances of a successful pregnancy.

Benefits of EmbryoGlue for Patients

  1. Increased Success Rate: EmbryoGlue increases the likelihood of the embryo successfully attaching to the uterine wall, leading to higher attachment and pregnancy rates. Some clinical studies have even reported up to a 20% increase in success rates.
  2. Safety: EmbryoGlue is safe and does not increase the risk of adverse events such as early or late miscarriages. It is recommended to use EmbryoGlue especially in single embryo transfers to maximize the chance of success.
  3. Support for Specific Patient Groups: EmbryoGlue is particularly useful for older patients, patients with repeated failed implantations, and in the transfer of frozen embryos. It also increases the chances of success for patients undergoing preimplantation genetic testing (PGT).

What is the procedure for using EmbryoGlue?

EmbryoGlue is used during the last step of the IVF process. After several days of culturing the embryos in the laboratory, the best quality embryo is selected and is ready to be transferred into the uterus. Shortly before the actual transfer, the embryo is placed in EmbryoGlue culture medium, which contains a high concentration of hyaluronan. This medium mimics the natural environment of the uterus and promotes embryo adhesion.
The embryo is transferred into the uterine cavity with EmbryoGlue using a fine catheter. The entire process is carefully monitored by ultrasound to ensure proper placement of the embryo.

The use of EmbryoGlue in IVF can be a key factor in increasing pregnancy success rates and the birth of healthy babies. It’s like adding an extra layer of support and reassurance to a process that is already full of hope and anticipation.
